BECOMING A MEMBER

If you wish to obtain a membership, you must apply for one at the Barry's Bay and Area Public Library and show valid Identification (example: Driver's Licence, Passport, etc.) at the time. Regular memberships expire after one year and must be renewed at that time at the library. At this time, you must also pay any fees you may have. You will not be awarded a renewal if you have any outstanding fines or overdues. Please see below for more specific information on becoming a member.

Residents of the Madawaska Valley Township
Any residents of the Madawaska Valley Township may apply for a free membership at the Barry's Bay and Area Public Library. If you own a cottage or any property in the Township of Madawaska Valley there will be no charge, but you must provide proof that you own property in this township.

Residents of Brudenell, Lyndoch, Raglan
If you are wishing to obtain a membership with the Barry's Bay and Area Public Library you must adhere to the above criteria, however, if you are a resident of one of these townships you will have to pay a fee of $25.00 per household. This fee will allow you to borrow resources from the library for one year. You may also pay the annual fee on a quarterly basis.

Non-Residents
If you are a non-resident, (i.e. not from any of the above townships) you may still apply to be a member of the library for a fee of $40.00 per family per annum, or $10.00 for 3 months minimum.

Age Requirements

BORROWING

Allotment
New members are permitted to take 4 books, 4 magazine and 4 sound recordings on one card up until the 6 month period of membership. Patrons who have been regular members for over 6 months are permitted to take a total of 8 book, 8 magazines and 4 sound recordings if they have been a member for more than 6 months and have no outstanding overdues or fines.

Period
All material from the Barry's Bay & Area Public Library is signed out for a period of 2 weeks. If you wish to borrow materials for an extended period of time, you may ask for it to be extended.

Renewing
You may ask for your materials to be renewed once at the time they are due UNLESS there is a reserve on them. You may renew your books or materials over the phone where there will be a charge of $0.50.

Reserves
A part of our children's section
Books may be reserved at the Barry's Bay & Area Public Library by filling out a reserve request slip.

Restrictions

Lost Borrowers Card
If a member has lost their borrower's card they may obtain a new one with for a fee of $1.00.

RETURNING
All materials must be returned to the Barry's Bay and Area Public Library. When the library is not open you may still return your materials by using the Night Drop. When using the night drop you MUST PLACE YOUR MATERIAL IN A BAG when dropping them through. If items are not placed in a bag and return damaged you will be responsible for the full cost of the materials.

FINES

Adult Books
$0.10 per book per day to a maximum of $5.00

Children's Books
$0.05 per book per day to a maximum of $2.00

Recordings
$0.15 per recording per day to a maximum of $5.00

Videos
$1.00 per day
