Children's Summer Program

The children's summer program is an activity based, fun and enjoyable program for children of all ages. To learn more about this program please contact the library at any time during the summer to learn additional information.

Craft Hour: During the months of July and August the Barry's Bay and Area Public Library is the forum for a hustle and bustle of excitement for children. Every Wednesday at 2:00 during the summer children are invited to the Library to partake in Craft Hour. During this hour they will learn to make theme oriented crafts while supervised by the library's summer student employees. Fun for all is guaranteed!

Games & Story Hour: On other afternoon at 2:00 during the summer months children of all ages are invited to join in the Library's Games and Story Hour. During this hour children will play safe, supervised, fun games and read stories from the library's collection of books.

The Reading Program: The children's reading program, a part of the summer program, encourages children to read during the summer with a chance to win prizes. The reading program is themed and fun for all.

Librarian for a 1/2 Hour: In this part of the children's summer program a child may apply to be the "Librarian for a 1/2 hour" throughout the summer. During this time, the child will learn what it is like to work in the library while being accompanied by a student employee. To participate, the child with parent/guardian may ask for a form at the circulation desk to pre-schedule a time.

Children's "Net" Tutorials: Children can book times on selected afternoons for one-on-one assistance to learn how to use the computer for electronic encyclopedia & internet research.

Author Readings

Many times over the years many authors have made their way to the Barry's Bay and Area Public Library to offer readings from their works as well as interaction with the community. Such names we have had include Roy MacGregor, Sandra Gulland, Brian Doyle and Joan Finnigan. One may never know when an author may appear so keep your eyes peeled to advertisements throughout the community.
